What You Can and Cannot Do With WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp Web is a pretty nifty application, but alas, it has some drawbacks as well. WhatsApp Web allows you to:

  • Type fast with your keyboard.
  • Access different media file types and download them directly on your computer.
  • Share pictures, videos, documents, and contacts.
  • Receive or mute desktop notifications.
  • Connect numerous computers with your mobile phone and save them for future emergencies

However, WhatsApp Web doesn’t allow you to:

  • Make or accept video and voice calls.
  • Update your WhatsApp status.
  • Share a map or your current location with others.
  • Disable automatic media download. Your computer will automatically download any picture and video sent to you.
  • Use your WhatsApp account on two browsers at the same time.

Using Multiple WhatsApp Accounts

Many people have more than one WhatsApp account. They can use these accounts on a single computer. This can be achieved by opening WhatsApp Web on different browsers, like Chrome and Firefox.

WhatsApp Web can also be opened in an incognito window, but it will log you out after an hour.

Is WhatsApp Web Safe?

It’s normal to wonder if the messaging app you’re using is safe or not. WhatsApp was criticized for its lack of security and vulnerabilities to data breaches in the beginning. But that all changed when it introduced end-to-end encryption for its messages. This encryption is also available for WhatsApp Web.

However, to be on the safe side, it’s still better to follow some safety tips when using the app.
