The new Moto X which was announced earlier at IFA 2014 is now arriving in the Indian market. The 16 GB variant will be sold through online retailer Flipkart and is priced at INR 31,999. With the other devices, Motorola has been targeting the market by offering excellent value for money with its other devices. However the Moto X has been their flagship device here and was targeting a different segment of users. Now with this new device, the price of Moto X has gone up which was very obvious from the spec sheet itself. Now with the new price, it goes against some really interesting devices and if you aren’t a fan of the new Moto X, you might want to take a look at this list for suggestions.
Google Nexus 5
Although the Google Nexus 5 has been around for a while now, it is still one of the best android devices. It has got a simple design, reasonable dimensions, light weight, good built quality and impressive hardware for the price. The device comes with a 5 inch display but they have managed to keep the dimensions smaller than most other 5 inch devices. The display itself is very impressive. It is an IPS LCD display with resolution of 1920 x 1080. On top of that you get Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to keep the display scratch free. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with a quad core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz. The hardware is quite powerful and even the newest Qualcomm Chipsets are just slightly more powerful than this. It gets 2 GB of RAM and is available with 16 or 32 GB of internal storage. There is no micro SD card though we think the 32 GB variant should suffice for most people. You get the usual set of connectivity options and an 8 megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation. The 16 GB device is priced at 29K on the Google Play store but you can even better deals at various e-commerce websites making it an excellent value for money.
Samsung Galaxy S5
We were expecting a lot from this device when it was about to be launched and to be very honest, we were a bit disappointed when the device was launched. Apparently we were expecting a bit too much from the device but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a great device. It is still an improvement upon the already impressive Galaxy S4. The design is uninspiring and follows the typical Samsung design scheme. It looks like a Galaxy S4 built on a different scale. The back has been changed a bit and now it features a faint pattern there. It gets a 5.1 inch full HD AMOLED display which is really impressive. The device has got IP67 certification for being dust and water resistant up to 1 metre. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor though the operation isn’t as seamless as the iPhone. It runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with 2.5 GHz quad core processor and 2 GB RAM. It gets a 16 megapixel camera with phase autofocus and a smart night mode.
HTC One E8
We really love the HTC One M8. It has got lot of impressive features, a powerful hardware, a decent camera, nice design and excellent built quality. But then all that craftsmanship has added a lot to the cost of this device. If you love the One M8 but don’t really want to spend that much on a mobile device, the HTC One E8 is for you. It features the same design as the One M8 but uses plastic instead of aluminium. The built quality is still very impressive. It retains the impressive stereo speakers from the M8. The E8 comes with a 5 inch full HD display like the M8. It runs the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with 2.5 GHz quad core processor and 2 GB of RAM. In the measures taken to bring down the costs, they have also replaced the dual camera on back with a single camera. The 4 megapixel ultra-pixel camera has gone away in favour of a standard 13 megapixel camera. The camera is still pretty good.
If you don’t like large screen devices and prefer a device with a sensible screen size, here is iPhone 5S for you. With the announcement of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the prices of iPhone 5S have dropped and now it is also in competition with the new Moto G. The build quality and design of this device won’t give you anything to complain about. It comes with a fingerprint sensor which is well integrated in the physical key up front. It has got a reasonably crisp 4 inch display. The iPhone 5S runs on a 64 bit system and has got 1 GB of RAM. It gets a very impressive 8 megapixel primary camera which can record videos at up to 120 fps. It also comes with a dual tone flash to ensure proper white balance.
Sony Xperia Z1
This is another impressive device that you can look at if you are looking for Moto X alternatives. The design of this device is impressive with glass dominating the major parts and an aluminium band running around it. It is IP58 certified to be water and dust proof up to 1 metre depth. The display size is 5 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is made out of shatter proof glass and boasts of Sony display technologies to improve image quality. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2.2 GHz quad core processor and 2 GB of RAM. It has got a 3000 mAh battery which ensures long battery life. Along with this, it has got various software features to further extend battery life. It gets an excellent 20.7 megapixel camera which yields really impressive results even in less than ideal conditions.
