Objective of the Indian Rummy

The objective of Indian rummy game is to form 13 cards into sequences and sets where a run consists of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. On the other hand, a set consists of three cards of the same rank in different suits. Each player picks a card at random from this shuffled deck. Generally, the game setting is as per the card value where the one who draws the highest card chooses his seat and to his right sits the next highest and so forth and so on. The player to the left of the dealer then draws a card unseen from the shuffled deck and places it on the table face up which is visible to all the players. This card is known as a wild joker.

The player who sits left to the dealer cuts the remaining cards and the dealer distributes them in an anticlockwise manner. Each player is dealt 13 cards and one card is dealt face up to begin the discard pile and the remaining cards are placed face down. Then, the deal passes on the right and it continues until each player has dealt once completing one round. After playing one or two rounds, a player quits the play at the end of a round. The player to dealer’s right plays first and the play continues in a counter-clockwise manner. With each player’s turn, he/she picks up either the top card of the face-up discard pile or the top card of the face down card.

Final Step

Finally, a player who has a poor hand, can withdraw from the game after a round. This is called picking or dropping. After the winner declares the game, all other players who have not packed count their hands for pay off. Rummy is a game of skill and presence of mind which makes you a real winner.
